Alex Pall: On the Unique Success of the Chainsmokers

In 2016, after the Chainsmokers’ new track Closer was released, Alex Pall, one half of the band, sat down for an interview. When asked how the band formed, Pall stated that being music was a hobby throughout his adolescence, and at one point he had a side gig as a DJ in New York City before stepping out to try and make music his full time profession. Taggart was in college before the band formed and had always had a passion for electronic music and DJing. He also was doing a few shows and uploading some songs on SoundCloud before trying to make a career of his music. When Pall and Taggart finally decided to pursue music full time, Pall’s manager introduced him to Drew and they instantly started creating new tracks.

According to Alex Pall, the pair cliqued initially and bonded over similar taste in music and a desire to make this career work. He recognized Taggert’s talent in producing and they started collaborating every day, trying to create their own sound and have a unique identity as DJs. Both Pall and Taggert wanted people to relate to their music and pushed each other to become better DJs and artists.

Alex Pall speaks about how the group’s songs are uniquely about them. Most people have songs written for them, and while the Chainsmokers use song writers, everything is a collaboration and they have direct input in the content. The group often uses other artists on tracks, but despite this the songs are still centered on their own experiences. At this point in their career, the duo are trying to create albums that are cohesive and distinctly different from other DJ albums.

Alex Pall is excited to see the Chainsmokers’ reach extend internationally and across different demographics. He speaks about their music being enjoyed by people from all different walks of life and different age ranges. As this audience expands the pair are pushing themselves to create exciting new concepts for their music and shows. Pall discusses their desire to have dynamic shows that are constantly evolving.

The Real Estate Mogul and Philanthropist, Hussain Sajwani

Hussain Sajwani has come a long way as a businessman. He founded his company DAMAC Properties in 2002 after the Dubai government allowed foreigners to own property in the country. He sold his first 38-story building in less than six months before he had even started construction; which was a start of something huge for the now billionaire real estate mogul. With a net worth of $4.8 billion, he helped shape the Dubai market to what it is today.


The DAMAC owner started his business career in the food service industry where he had good success. During that time he had clients like the U.S. military and Bechtel, the giant construction company. He however diversified but kept the business, and is still operating under his watch. The company today is named Global Logistics Services.


Hussain Sajwani admits that his success in business has been as a result of vision and luck. This is however mostly due to the hard work he put into the business. When Dubai had a sharp downturn in real estate prices, the company stuck it out with all the challenges they faced. The resilience paid off as he set off to build the Akoya in 2012. Through the company’s creative marketing and resilience, the company has thrived. The company has 166 billboards in Dubai. From time to time the company also gives free luxury cars to buyers and much more.


The creative approach set the company apart from the competition and shot Mr. Sajwani straight to the billionaire list. Mr. Sajwani is also a philanthropist at heart. He recently instructed his company to donate two million Arab Emirates dollars to charities that are working with underprivileged kids. The goal was to clothe 50,000 kids around the world. The company did this without hesitation. It takes a lot to care about those less fortunate when you are blessed with abundance.
